After a night out and getting home at 4am, we needed a very lazy morning to recover. We got up late and headed to Soho for the Village Fete. We saw some dancers and much bunting…
…and the Soho Waiters’ Race – apparently a long-held tradition! [Some took the “race” part more seriously than others]

On another beautifully sunny Sunday (we’ve been very lucky this summer) the Month of Sundays pair headed out to Richmond to see what we could find. We stumbled upon a particularly retro Tesco Express:
If you don’t mind a bit of a walk, there’s a free car park near the National Trust’s Ham House, from where we walked along the river to the centre. There were some extremely photogenic cows:
This pretty much sums up this particular Sunday – drinks in Kensington Gardens. We lay in the grass and talked and snoozed. Perfect.
We took a beautiful walk along the Regent’s Canal. I’d never been before, and was only dimly aware of its existence, so it was amazing to have a totally different perspective on London. There were so many canal boats and barges!
I decided I’d extremely like to live in one, just not all the time and not when it rained. Maybe this one:
On one of the first properly summery days this year, we decided to visit the newly re-opened Kenwood House, which sits atop the glorious Hampstead Heath.
Walking across the Heath, we enjoyed a spot of people-watching and feeling that we were miles away from London.
A recent quiet Sunday took us to South Kensington, and the amazing Science Museum, as I’d never been. Walking past the Natural History…
We saw some wonderful exhibits, including an early computer-esque machine. It was fascinating! [That “computer-esque machine” is a reconstruction of Babbage’s Analytical Engine]
In the spirit of exploring some more quirky areas of London, we headed to the Horniman Museum to see what they had to offer. Although of course the wonderful Horniman walrus welcomed us with open flippers, it was the aquatic section in the basement which ended up being the most photo-worthy, with many little frogs…
And although we couldn’t track down Nemo, Dory made an appearance!
Columbia Road. One of the best ways to spend a day in London that I know of. A tiny street miles away from its nearest tube, Old Street, it feels like you’re heading the wrong way out of trendy Shoreditch.
However, if you visit on a Sunday you are met with a street full of people, quirky and artistic shops, street musicians and, most of all, flowers:
